Tech Topic # 3: Ipads

Before  coming to Slippery Rock I would have thought that Ipads had no place in physical education, but I must say I was wrong.  There are countless apps that all have excellent uses in physical education.  The easiest and one of the most applicable uses is simply using the camera and video recording capabilities.  Students can see how they are performing a particular skill first-hand to see how they can improve.  There are a plethora of reading and math apps that can be used in interdisciplinary lessons.  As  mentioned in my previous blog there are even apps that can be linked to heart rate monitors via Bluetooth!  So don't think you have to be a couch potato to use an Ipad and incorporate it into your physical activity!

  1. I agree about how useful Ipads can be when it comes to teaching/leading physical activity. Before I came to SRU, I was unaware of how many useful apps there are that deal with physical activity. Due to techpete, I now know of many apps and how to use them. I hope more people realize that Ipads can be used for physical activity, so hopefully this encourages them to try new things with the Ipads such as make videos or presentations about different health-related topics.

  2. I completely agree with this post, good choice of topic! I too, did not think iPads had a place in the PE classroom but have been proven wrong time and time again in college. There is so much potential and I feel that integrating iPads into the gym can only lead to benefits for all.

  3. Great post Caleb! I like how you incorporated that you would've thought iPads had no business being involved in education. I agree that they are definitely a great asset to many classrooms. It was awesome how you listed some apps that can be used for classes. Great job and keep up with the informative posts.
